Re-elect Diana and Stanley Spiegel
Diana Spiegel and her husband Stanley have been homeowners and
neighborhood activists as members of the North Brookline Neighborhood
Association since 1978. They reside in Precinct 2 where they
raised two of their children, David and Sarah, both graduates of Devotion
School and Brookline High School.
A senior scientific computer programmer in climate science at MIT, Diana has been a Precinct 2 Town Meeting Member since 1994. She was a leader in the successful campaign to prevent the demolition of historic St. Aidan's church and to bring about the reasonable development of mixed-income housing on that site. More recently, she has spearheaded the passage of zoning changes designed to prevent the overdevelopment of residential neighborhoods, and has chaired and currently serves on the board of the Brookline Neighborhood Alliance.
Stanley, a mathematics professor at UMass Lowell, has been a Town
Meeting Member since 1981. He has served on the Advisory (Finance)
Committee since 1985, focusing budget issues and on zoning and bylaw
proposals.
In addition, he has served on Moderator-appointed
committees studying sidewalk snow removal, recycling and solid waste
reduction,
and the division between residential and commercial
property taxes; he makes annual appearances before the Selectmen to
argue for fair homeowner tax rates. A former trustee of Congregation
Kehillath Israel, Stanley has represented Precinct 2 on the 1984,
1994, 2002, and 2012 townwide redistricting committees and, along with
his wife Diana, he has been active as a Town Meeting Member providing
needed funding for schools, libraries, police, fire, parks and
infrastructure maintenance, while opposing excessive neighborhood
development.
